The Phenomenon of The Shack

The book The Shack by WM. Paul Young has become somewhat of a phenomenon lately. The subtitle is Where Tragedy Meets Eternity. It tells of one man's struggle with the age old question; how can the idea of a loving God be reconciled with the reality of evil and tragic loss?

I won't give any of the story away but the hero, Mack, suffers a tremendous loss and has an out of the ordinary encounter with God. The book is unapologetically Christian.Through the story WM. Paul Young provides us with his view of not only a response to the question of evil and suffering but his vision of the very nature of God and the universe. Through unusual imagery he makes this topic not only fresh but entertaining and humorous at times as well.

The Shack provides for the Christian reader a new way of looking at familiar issues and for the non-Christian can provide a very good exposition of what Christianity is all about. I highly recommend anyone to take a look at this unique book.

Thought for the day

"I love the one's I am angry with just as much as much as those I'm not".

  1. I too enjoyed this book. I have many friends who question my ability to use humor and joy instead of fear regarding faith. The book and visuals I recieved became tangible and the gray area of "spirituality and religion" became clearer. There are no labels after this read, just love and excitement for life and my beliefs.

  2. This book is liberal drivel that departs from God's word regarding God's nature, his holiness, his word and the basis of salvation. It is universalist fiction, which is why it is so popular with people who do not study their bibles.

  3. Read the Bible not the Shack and you will see that Jesus judges and sends to Hell all that do not repent and believe in him. So if you believe ths Shack fiction, you are not believing the bible. Its just a fact. If you don't believe me read the Bible. Should take you about as long to read the New Testament and get the truth as it does to read wishful thinking like the Shack.

  4. I THINK THAT THE BOOK IS DEFINENETLY HOLY GHOST INSPIRED. I HAVE READ AND STUDIED THE NEW TESTAMENT AS WELL AS THE OLD. WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND 1 CORINTHIANS 2:14. UNDER THE NEW COVENANT OF GRACE I THINK THAT THE BOOK IS A VERY GOOD DEPICTION OF GODS LOVE TOWARD HIS CHILDREN AND HIS DESIRE THAT ALL SHOULD COME TO REPENTANCE. ALTHOUGH IT IS A FACT THAT ALL WILL NOT BE SAVED I FEEL THE BIBLE IS CLEAR IN THE FACT THAT WE AS A CHURCH HAVE MADE IT MUCH TO DIFFICULT TO MAKE HEAVEN. I LOVE THE BOOK AND I APPRECIATE MR YOUNG FOR BEING OPEN TO SPIRIT.
