Time to renew our edges…

“What a robust people, what a nation of thinkers we might be, if we would only
lay ourselves on the shelf occasionally and renew our edges!”

Do you recognize this quote that invites you to imagine how your life could improve, if on occasion you made the time to renew your edges? In 1867, funded by a local newspaper, a 32 year old Mark Twain traveled through Europe and the Holy Land with a group of Americans. They boarded the chartered vessel Quaker City, which was a retired Civil War ship, the USS Quaker City. Twain referred to this trip as his “Great Pleasure Excursion.” Ultimately in 1869 Twain published a travel book The Innocents Abroad which chronicled his observations and the book became one of the best selling travel books of all time. In Innocents Abroad Twain observed:

“In America, we hurry–which is well; but when the day’s work is done, we go on
thinking of losses and gains, we plan for the morrow, we even carry our business
cares to bed with us…we burn up our energies with these excitements, and
either die early or drop into a lean and mean old age at a time of life which
they call a man’s prime in Europe…What a robust people, what a nation of
thinkers we might be, if we would only lay ourselves on the shelf occasionally
and renew our edges!”

Cottonwood Tucson InnerPath Retreats offer ways to “renew your edges”

In 1999 some 130 years after Twain took his “Great Pleasure Excursion” Cottonwood Tucson launched its InnerPath Retreats. These retreats allow an attendee to fully concentrate on continuing the work necessary to be a full participant in their own life. If you have never attended a retreat, we invite you to peruse our InnerPath brochure to have a better understanding of each retreat and the opportunities afforded by attending.
